Serving the Greater St. Louis and surrounding area.
At Black Hearts Chainsaw Art, our style is a bit different than that of traditional chainsaw carving which often times can be a bit more rough and rustic in design; while we tend to gear more towards high detail and realism in our sculptures and really focus on bringing out those finer details, with a smooth and polished finished look.
We do specialize in custom work as 99% of our designs are custom orders. We work with each client on a one on one basis to develop a design that best fits what they're looking for. It is important that we are able to communicate with our clients in order to go over all of our options when developing each design.
Often times, our clients have a theme in mind but aren't sure on the best way to execute it.
We have found the best way to collaborate with our clients is through visual means - meaning, we ask our clients to search through images and to provide us with visual aids that will allow us to see the styles and designs you are most drawn to - googling images of the theme or subject you are interested in and then sending us those images will allow us to better understand your personal preferences. Images can be of real life animals, beings, settings, or objects; painting/sketches; sculptures/figurines; etc. This allows us to put your thoughts into perspective to fit your style.
We will then begin to build a design that brings together our own style and your vision in order to create of unique and one of a kind work of art.
Please also remember we are creating each and every one of these pieces from a 'blank canvas' or more accurately a round log - its a slow process and can get pretty complicated, especially with our high detailed sculptures.
We invest a lot of time into each and every one of our sculptures - we can only provide a rough estimate in the expected start and completion time as many unexpected factors can slow down our process - finding unexpected damage within a log that needs special attention (by either removing, repairing, or replacing the damaged wood), the weather (the rainy season tends to slow us down a bit as the majority of our carvings are roughed out outside), etc.
Have a work of art created at your location!
If you have had or are having a tree taken down, consider having a portion of the stump left behind for us to carve - we serve not only the St. Louis and surrounding areas but are also willing to travel farther out as well. Travel costs for any onsite chainsaw carving will be added to the total cost of the carving - onsite carving travel costs are typically calculated by accumulated mileage over days traveled.
Carving onsite can be complicated due to the location of the stump, condition of the wood, debris that can be found within the stump, and the terrain surrounding the area.
Prices vary greatly from piece to piece and are generally determined by size, detail, and design - when calculating costs for onsite carving, we also factor in the difficulty of the terrain, wood condition, scaffolding needs, etc. Additional charges may apply if/when we run into debris/metal within the stump that causes damage to our equipment.
If you are considering turning your stump into a unique work of art, feel free to contact us to go over your options. Please include the estimated size of the stump by measuring the width around the tree/stump roughly waist high, how tall the stump is if it has already been cut down, and any design ideas you may have.
As with our 'Custom Designs' section above, visual aids allow us to see the styles and designs you are most drawn to - googling images of the theme or subject you are interested in and then sending us those images will allow us to better understand your personal preferences. Images can be of real life animals, beings, or objects; painting/sketches; sculptures/figurines; etc. This allows us to put your thoughts into perspective to fit your style. We will build a design that brings together our own style with your vision.
Due to the custom nature of our work - we are unable to offer a general price list for custom orders. The price of each piece is determined on very specific details assigned to that sculpture - prices are determined based up size, difficulty level, detail level, the coloring or finishing process used, design and research time invested, etc., so its extremely difficult for us to have a general price list.
For instance - if we were to stand up three 4ft logs with the same diameter, we could carve a traditional chainsaw carved bear in one, a full detailed standing black bear in the second, and one of our high detailed Battle Crosses in the third.
Each of these pieces require the same diameter and size log BUT the difficulty level of each vary drastically putting them into far different price brackets.
Before a price can be given, we will need to go over all the factors considered in the desired expectations of the final design.
Once a design is decided upon and finalized, a 50% non refunable deposit is due before we are able to put your order on our schedule.
Typically, for smaller and simpler designs, we have a wait time of 6-8 weeks. This time frame may need to be adjusted depending on the number of current orders on our schedule.
For our larger high-detailed sculptures, we often have a waiting period of 3-4 months but again, our time frame is determined based on our current orders and the flexibility of those deadlines.
If an order is needed before the approximated periods above, we do offer what we call 'rush orders', as long as our schedule allows it. There is an additional charge applied to 'rush orders' - for smaller, less complicated designs, the rush fee starts at a 25% upcharge of the total order (time line needed is also taken into consideration when figuring the 'rush fee'). For more complex and larger designs, the fee is determined on a case by case basis and the time frame we have to create the design in.
